Good Shepherd Catholic Church
Gainsville, GA
The 2014 renovations to the Church of the Good Shepherd included an expansion of the main sanctuary and the addition of a choir loft within the existing glu-lam wood framed structure. Millard designed the new choir loft as a stand-alone steel moment-frame structure, completely independent of and un-reliant on the surrounding origial glu-lam wood church structure. While architectural finishes give the appearance of a wood choir loft blending seamlessly with the original church structure, movement joints allow for independent movement of the two structures in high wind or seismic events. Millard also designed a new entrance tower with structural steel, and a new chapel constructed of wood.
